I just finished up a JD 110 for a friend of mine. What a project that turned out to be. It started with fixing the lights and putting a spring on the clutch petal so it would return and it wouldn't go full speed unless you really pulled back hard on the pedal. So after i replaced the light switch and fixed a couple of wires i went to southern york turf and tractor and picked up a new spring for the clutch petal. After i replaced that when i tested out the pedal it still didn't come back all the way, great. So the next thing i checked was the drive belt of course bad. Now to make it a little easier to get under i jacked the back end of the tractor up and as im doing this i noticed the wheel on my right didn't go up right away. Now it needs bearings. Simple project is now getting more in depth. So i call my buddy and he says fix what you have to so it is reliable. So back to John Deere for more parts. I got axle bearings for both sides, seals and a drive belt. The next day i start to tear the tractor apart.That means the whole rear needs to come out because you can't get to the bolts to get the axle housing off. well something like 10 bolts later the rear is out. I take the bolts out of the axle housing and slide it off the axle and there is no bearing left all i found was the race and one ball. To get the race out of the housing i had to torch it red hot and beat it like crazy. Now the axle has a grove in it from rubbing what was left of the bearing. Next i took off the seal and cleaned everything up and put the new seal on, checked if the bearing would work since there was a grove in the axle and it was still snug. The other side was a piece of cake. The old bearing came right out put the new seal on put on the new bearing put the housings back on and bolted the rear back on, put the new drive belt on. Now that the rear is back in the tractor and the hubs and wheels are back on its time to test it out and see how the petal is. Still no luck you have to pull the petal back with your foot to make the tractor go full speed. There is one other thing i can think of, variable speed belt. Back to John Deere! I get the belt and get back home i have to take the new belt all the springs i just put on, back off. Once i get the belts off and the pulleys off the motor i put the new variable speed belt on and back together i put the deck back on and test it again, finally it works!!! No more pulling the pedal back to go full speed. So since i wanted to really test everything i went to my back yard and turned on the deck to mow and nothing. Back to the garage to take off the deck and i take off the cover and that belt was so worn out and had huge cracks in it. It was that worn out the idler pulley was only half there! How that belt stayed on that long i have no clue but all that was left was the top half because it rubbed against the pulley to the blade. Back to John Deere for pulley and a belt. So after its all back together i try it again and it works no more problems!!! Now that its half a new tractor it should last him for a long while!
